Tonisity Px Increases Weaning Weight by 210g Even in Rotavirus-Affected Piglets

The Study at a Glance

A study (24-031) conducted on a commercial pig farm in France, housing 650 Hypor sows and following a 3-week batch farrowing system, has shown promising results using Tonisity Px, an isotonic protein drink designed to nourish the intestinal cells of piglets.

This farm, which was battling ongoing Rotavirus diarrhoea, became the perfect setting to assess the benefits of Tonisity Px on piglet performance, specifically focusing on weaning weight, one of the key indicators of early piglet health and future productivity.

How the Study Was Conducted

Population: 4,586 piglets across 324 litters, in 4 different production batches.

Groups: Litters were carefully assigned to either Tonisity Px or Control groups within each farrowing room.

Administration: Tonisity Px was provided as 500 ml per litter per day, from day 2 to day 8 of life.

Weighing: Piglets were weighed as full treatment groups at weaning, approximately 28 days of age.

One key aspect of the study was that cross-fostering (the practice of moving piglets between sows) was done within treatment groups only, ensuring that the results remained consistent and unbiased.
